North Crawford’s Carstens takes fifth at State Track Meet

NORTH CRAWFORD RUNNER Helen Carstens (5) reached a career best time at the state track meet at UW-LaCrosse last Saturday. The sophomore long distance runner took fifth place in the 3200-meter run in the WIAA Division 3 State Track Meet with a time of 11:33:89.

NORTH CRAWFORD - Qualifying for the WIAA State Track Meet last week, North Crawford distance runner Helen Carstens finished in fifth place at the annual state track meet held at UW-LaCrosse on Saturday June 1.

Carstens went into the meet ranked fifth in the state and would hold that position at the end of the race on Saturday. She ran her career best time of 11:33.89, more than 10 seconds better than she has ever run. Freshman Kacey Martenson from Benton Scales-Mound won the meet with a career best time of 10:48.84.

“All of the coaches and community are proud to watch Helen run,” North Crawford Track Coach Mike Allbaugh said after the meet. “She has a true passion for running and I give a lot of credit to our distance coach Liz Bransky. It has been a very memorable year and we’re looking forward to seeing what Helen can do in her future.”
